Ubuntu Server development summary – 03 July 2018

The purpose of this communication is to provide a status update and highlights for any interesting subjects from the Ubuntu Server Team. Spotlight: cloud-init 18.3 Released

Recently, the cloud-init project released version 18.3! From the announcement, some highlights include:

  • OpenStack Datasource now runs at local time frame paving the way for network configuration in the next release.
  • Fix utf-8 content in user-data (LP: #1768600)
  • Many SmartOS improvements
  • Numerous bug fixes, test improvements, and tool changes.

Version 18.3 is already available in Ubuntu Cosmic. Other Ubuntu releases will have 18.3 shortly as the SRU process is completed.

cloud-init

  • update_metadata: a datasource can support network re-config every boot
  • Retry on failed import of gpg receive keys.
  • Explicitly prevent sudo access for user module (Jacob Bednarz) (LP: #1771468)
  • docs: Fix a small spelling error (Oz N Tiram)
  • docs: represent sudo:false in docs for user_groups config module
  • tools: Fix run-container when neither source or binary package requested.
  • tox: use simplestreams from git repository rather than bzr.
  • tests: drop salt-minion integration test (LP: #1778737)
  • Enabled automatic merge of approved merge requests

curtin

  • Added Ubuntu Cosmic vmtests
  • Enabled automatic merge of approved merge requests

simplestreams

  • Migrated project from bzr to git
  • Updated CI with new location
